The Panthers showed some life when Delhomme completed a 48-yard pass to Steve Smith, but it looked like if the ball hadn’t hung up in the air and had been better thrown, he could’ve scored.

The Panthers had a second-and-goal at the Tampa 1 and looked ready to score a touchdown until the legs of Delhomme and running back Jonathan Stewart got tangled on the handoff, causing Stewart to fall and resulting in a 1-yards loss. Carolina had to settle for a field goal.

After a replay review determined the Bucs’ Michael Bennett downed a punt at the 1-yard line before his feet reached the end zone, the Panthers had the ball at the 1 instead of the 20 if the initial call of a touchback had been upheld.

Tampa faced third-and-2 from the Panthers’ 37 when quarterback Jeff Garcia completed a 23-yard pass to running back Earnest Graham for a first down. The play led to a touchdown that put Tampa ahead 27-3.
