Hilee Taylor

SCHOOL: North Carolina

POSITION: Linebacker

HEIGHT: 6-3

WEIGHT: 236

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: Played defensive end as a senior for North Carolina, getting 10.5 sacks, and showed impressive mid 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash. He was second-team All-ACC.

QUOTE: "I'm not really scared. Football is something I've been playing for a while. The physical part I think I have, but the only thing is the mental part. You've got to get in and learn the plays, and have a good minicamp. I want to learn, so I think I'll be all right."

BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW: Taylor, a former All-Observer player at Scotland County, grew up a huge fan of Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers. "It's like a dream come true," he said of becoming Peppers' teammate. They are the only Tar Heels ever drafted by the Panthers.

-- Stan Olson

PANTHERS FIT: Carolina took Taylor, one source said, largely because the Panthers were impressed with his strong character. Despite his size, they intend to develop Taylor as a defensive end. He also could help out on special teams.
