Charlotte 49ers senior Jonas Enander Hedin has accepted an invitation to compete in the Palmer Cup, a Ryder Cup-style tournament that pits the top U.S. collegiate players against the best from Europe.

Enander Hedin, a native of Sweden, will play for the European squad June 26-27 in Glasgow, Scotland.

"I've worked hard here and our team has been very successful, but it's always nice to be recognized as an individual, as well," said Enander Hedin, who helped lead the 49ers to a program-best No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament's 27-team East Regional, which will be May 15-17 in Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Jim Utter

• Enander Hedin also is one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award, the Golf Coaches' Association of America announced.

Candidates must be a graduating senior, and the selection committee considers equally a nominee's entire collegiate academic and golf career and his character and integrity.

Other finalists are Bruno Buccolo of Oklahoma Christian, Rob Grube of Stanford, Washington & Lee's Nathaniel James and Joseph Sykora of Alabama.
