Wait a sec -- wasn't Trump deal tabled?

If Donald Trump's plans for a high-rise development in uptown Charlotte are on hold, what's that ad for the project doing in the Wachovia Championship program?

That's what people who saw page 89 of the program were asking Tuesday, and so far there has been no explanation from the Trump Organization.

The ad apparently was placed to meet a deadline before postponement of the ambitious plan was disclosed in March.

A rendering of a 70-something-story, modernistic complex refers readers to a Web site, www.trumpcharlotte.com, with more images of what was on the drawing board of Charlotte's Little Diversified Architectural Consulting.

The site offers no explanation about the images.

Charlotte Center City Partners President Michael Smith, who has talked with the Trumps about the project over the past year, said it's his understanding that they are still in the exploratory stage.

Three Trump children attended last year's Wachovia Championship, and Eric Trump, one of Donald's sons, said in March, "We still love Charlotte. When we do come, it will be in a significant way."

The Trumps had planned to buy about 2.5 acres at Stonewall and Tryon streets for a development that possibly could have included an office tower, condo tower, five-star hotel and upscale retail.

That site, owned by Crescent Resources, is no longer under contract to Trump and could end up in the hands of another developer or be developed by Crescent itself.

Eric Trump said earlier that if the economic climate improves and the Trumps do decide to build in Charlotte, they would consider other center city development sites.
