It was North Carolina's 40th victory of the season, against eight losses. The Tar Heels, who join Texas A&M and Florida State as the only 40-win teams in the country, extended their school-record stretch of 40-victory seasons to seven. North Florida is 26-22.
North Carolina rallied from a four-run deficit to match its biggest comeback victory of the season. Seven Tar Heels had multi-hit games, including Garrett Gore, who was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
JACKSONVILLE 7, No. 4 FLORIDA STATE 6: Brad Simmons knocked in four runs to help Jacksonville squeak out a victory at Florida State. Simmons homered in the second and Alex Martinez and Thomas Myers also scored to give Jacksonville (25-24) an early 3-0 lead. Tyler Holt knocked in two runs for FSU (40-8).
CLEMSON 11, FURMAN 5: The Tigers broke from a 5-5 tie after five innings with six runs in the next three to win at Furman. Ben Paulsen went 4-for-5 with two RBIs for Clemson (25-23-1). Brian Harrison went 3-for-4 for the Paladins (29-17).
No. 17 SOUTH CAROLINA 10, WOFFORD 5: Whit Merrifield and DeAngelo Mack each had three hits to lead South Carolina at Wofford (21-29). All nine starters for the Gamecocks (34-15) had at least one hit. South Carolina finished with 16 hits.
ELON 19-7, DAVIDSON 9-1: Elon starter Steven Hensley outdueled Davidson's Thomas Middour to lead the visiting Phoenix (37-16, 18-8) to a victory in the nightcap of a Southern Conference doubleheader. The Phoenix won the opener 19-9.
Hensley struck out 10 and gave up one run and six hits in eight innings. Middour struck out eight and allowed three runs, two earned, in seven innings. Davidson is 10-35, 2-21.
THE CITADEL 14, WINTHROP 7: Sonny Meade had five hits and five RBIs, and Richard Jones had a home run among his four hits and three RBIs as the Bulldogs (25-23) rolled at Winthrop. Kevin Nolan and Aaron Bonomi had three hits each for the Eagles (21-28).
