One person was killed and another seriously injured early this morning in a single-vehicle wreck in northeast Union County.
The N.C. Highway Patrol said the wreck happened shortly before 4 a.m. on New Salem Road, near Tarlton Mill Road. That is about 5 miles north of Marshville.
Troopers say the driver of a Ford Mustang apparently lost control, crossed the center line, and slammed into two trees. The car caught fire. Troopers say the passenger was killed, and the driver was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center.
The names of the people in the car have not been released.
Troopers say speed was a factor in the crash.
