Jeff Almond, who has spent near a quarter-century with the Davidson Fire Department, has been elected as chief of the department.

He was elected by members of the department Nov. 10, but the election was announced today by Town Manager Leamon Brice.

Almond had been an assistant chief for the past three years. He ran unopposed for the chief's position, Brice said.

Almond has worked in fire service for 36 years, including the last 24 in Davidson. He has a bachelor's degree from UNC Charlotte and a masters degree from Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology. He works full-time with Duke Energy as Corporate Environment, Health and Safety Manager.

The Davidson Fire Department is a mostly volunteer force, although some members are paid for parttime service. The department provides fire and emergency medical services.

Davidson residents Wilson Sadler and Carl Cormier were elected assistant chiefs, town officials said.
