A family of four safely escaped a house fire this morning that has closed a portion of N.C. 3 in western Cabarrus County.
The fire was reported about 5 a.m. at a residence on N.C. 3 near Sugar Hill Road. That is not far from Davidson-Concord Road.
Firefighters from at least three departments were called to the scene, and they needed more than a dozen trucks to deal with the blaze, which severely damaged the large two-story house. It was about 6:30 a.m. before firefighters put out all the flames. There were no injuries reported among crews battling the blaze.
Because of the cleanup, N.C. 3 is closed in the area around Davidson Road. Motorists can use Earnhardt Lake Road as an alternate. The Cabarrus County Schools have been forced to change routes for several buses this morning.
