A 20-year-old man was shot and killed at an east Charlotte house party early today and police are looking for the shooter – a man seen leaving Montezuma Trail in a dark vehicle.

The shooting happened around 2:30 this morning. Guests at the party say they heard gunfire from upstairs.

When officers responded, they found Larry Antonio Gaither of Charlotte inside with at least one gunshot wound in his side. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police spent much of the morning interviewing about seven people at headquarters to try to get more information.

Investigators say the shooting doesn't appear to be a random act, but they have not said why they believe that.

A suspect has not been named, but police described him as a bearded, dark-skinned black man in his 30s. He was bald, between 170 and 200 pounds and wearing a light-colored button down shirt and blue jeans.

The homicide was the 62nd Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have investigated so far this year.
