Iredell County authorities seized 20 pounds of marijuana, valued at $400,000, during a Tuesday morning traffic stop.

According to a statement by Sheriff Phil Redmond, officers with the Iredell County Interstate Team stopped a 2001 Suzuki Vitara for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers used a police dog to search for the drugs.

Officials found the marijuana after a hand search of a nonfactory compartment.

Steven Michael Galati of New York was charged with trafficking marijuana. He was placed in the Iredell County Jail under a $150,000 bond.

This case is still under investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division.
