The Hall Family Farm's strawberry crop is ripe and ready for picking.

The fourth-generation family farm offers do-it-yourself picking and ready-picked berries. It's off Providence Road West near Johnston Road in Ballantyne.

Kevin Hall said they've sold out of strawberries a few times since they opened three weeks ago, but a new crop is now ready. Lettuces and other leafy veggies including bok choi and Chinese cabbage are also available.

They're also planting summer produce including corn, squash, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and melons that will be sold through the family's roadside stand.

The farm is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, but check the Web site in case they have to close to let new berries ripen: http://hallfamilyfarm.com.

You can also read Hall's blog about the farm at http://blog.hallfamilyfarm.com/.

Not sure what you'd do with a bucket of berries? There are tons of recipes available at http://www.ncstrawberry.org/.
