The people who make white tents, folding tables and really big coolers must be having a great year.
Look in town squares and empty parking lots in almost every town in the Piedmont and you'll see them. White tents over folding tables spread with lettuce, spring onions and asparagus. Big coolers loaded with cartons of farm eggs and packages of pastured meats.
The farmers market season has arrived.
When we updated our annual list of farmers markets all over the Piedmont, we found new life, new markets and new vendors.
In Shelby, the older town market has been replaced by the Foothills Farmers Market on the courthouse square. In Monroe, Davidson and Denver, N.C., new markets have sprung up. In Charlotte, the growing Tailgate Market has found a new home in SouthEnd.
You can even take Lynx to the Tailgate Market and to the Center City Green Market across from Seventh Street Station.
You'll find the list of markets on page 7E. The list is also online, along with our guide to pick-your-own farms. Click on “details” and you'll get maps to help you find your way. The lists also will stay active. If we missed your market, please let us know.
